Singapore-based Taiwanese Canadian singer-songwriter Anie Fann 范安婷 closes off 2025 with a surprise drop of “Artemis 1889 V2.0”, a 5th anniversary reprise of her 2019 album replete with two dystopian remixes by acclaimed artist-producers Yeo & Evanturetime, as well as a look into the inner world of Artemis 1889 through several unreleased demos.

Originally released in September 2020, ‘Artemis 1889’ was an LP that raised questions about the invasive nature of social media and A.I.s role in our lives; creating an immersive dystopian yet curious sonic space for these questions to take root. Arriving in 2025 at the album’s 5th anniversary, the questions posed within the record continue to be more relevant than ever.

In releasing a refreshed version of ‘Artemis 1889’, Fann asks us once again to keep these topics in the forefront for discussion: What would our world look like if online oversharing meant strangers would know our children intimately from the moment they were born? What if carefully crafted misinformation made it impossible to distinguish truth from fiction? Through her songs, Anie argues that these dystopian futures have already arrived. 

“Artemis 1889 V2.0” features two new remixes that add new color to the album’s dystopian landscape. In “Human(ly) (Yeo remix)”, critically-acclaimed  Malaysian-Australian singer-songwriter and music producer Yeo uses his versatile and genre spanning ability to craft a layered sonic world that is gritty but glamorous, dark but inviting. Could there be chemistry between a human and an AI being? 

The second remix “Switcheroo (Evanturetime remix)” brought to life by veteran award-winning Singaporean producer and songwriter Evan Low, accentuates the dystopian darkness of the song and turns it into a parallel-dimensioned fairytale. What does the online world look like when misinformation runs rampant and deep fakes mean you could become anyone?

On working with Anie, Low shared:

“When I was approached to work on Anie’s remix, I was instantly pulled in by how 换 painted such a vivid story — it’s catchy, but also full of quiet strength and color. Anie gave me complete trust and freedom to reimagine it from the ground up, and that kind of creative space is rare and super energizing for me. With that trust, I felt confident to take the song somewhere a little unexpected — to strip it back, let it breathe, and build a minimal yet groovy world around her voice.”

Also included in “Artemis 1889 V2.0” are 4 demos of the songs in the album, inviting listeners to catch an intimate glimpse into the songwriting and production process.

In “From the archives：（真）人,” the whispered harmonies of the chorus and layered background vocals features the skeleton on which the final version would later be built.

Likewise in “From the archives：轉,” listeners can experience how Anie experimented with ways to create the right music language to suit the song’s story, written from the point of view of a mysterious digital being growing at exponential speeds.

As the inquisitive singer-songwriter closes a chapter on this seven-year long experimentation with concepts related to humanity and technology, she shares her introspective reflections on this whole process: 

”In 2018, what first began as a few existential musings turned into an entire concept album that encompasses various technology related topics like online misinformation, social media’s impact on mental health, online overexposure for children, amongst others. This whole album was started because I was a fangirl of the show ‘Black Mirror’. I became obsessed with dystopian futures and wanted to explore my own fears about what could happen if we don’t have the foresight to reign ourselves in.”

“Artemis V2.0” serves as an ongoing exploration into the multitude of possibilities in our future world. Anie’s bold, unconstrained songwriting serves the sole purpose of bringing to life a complex and disquieting universe rife with our own mistakes, and continues to do so in this refreshing new perspective on a well-loved body of work.
