The Golden Indie Music Awards(GIMA)金音創作獎 announced the 12th full list of nominees on the 7th of October. Led by Paiwan singer ABAO阿爆, who took home the Best Album Award back in 2020, this year the judging panel made their final selections out of a mammoth list of 3608 musical pieces.

It looks to be a good year for R’n’B artists as ØZI, LINION and Shi Shi孫盛希 pick up nominations across the top major categories from Best Album to Best Songwriter to Best Alternative Song. Elsewhere, heavy metal band Flesh Juicer血肉果汁機 appears to be a judge favourite, racking up 5 entries in total, while Outlet Drift漂流出口 continue their winning streak, fresh on the back of their Best Indigenous Group Award win at the GMAs.

The Hip Hop Awards feature perhaps the most exciting competition. wannasleep, breakout star of Taiwanese rap survival show “The Rappers”, looks likely to take the New Artist award and goes up against his on-screen mentor Kumachan熊仔 in the Best Hip Hop Song category. He is also in the running for the Best Hip Hop Album award alongside legendary female rapper Dizzy Dizzo蔡詩芸 and a surprising appearance from Jay Chou 周杰倫‘s protege Patrick Brasca派偉俊.

A special shout out goes to some APW favourites – upcoming Singaporean artist Shye gets a mention in the Asian Artist category, indie band The Fur. still manage to score an entry in the Alternative Album Award despite splitting up earlier this year, and the inimitable Sunset Rollercoaster落日飛車 continue to storm the board with their epic 2019 album SOFT STORM柔性風暴.

This year’s Special Contribution Award goes to 吳武璋Wu Wu-chang, a 30-year veteran of the music industry and head of local bookstore chain Eslite 誠品’s record store.
